Help build Liberia’s quality infrastructure — from the ground up

SELA is assembling the team that will operate Liberia’s first ISO/IEC 17025-accredited civil engineering materials testing laboratory. We are looking for engineers, technicians, quality professionals, and business leaders who want real responsibility and a share in building something that lasts.

As a founding-stage organisation, every hire shapes the culture, systems, and standards that will define SELA for years to come. If you want to work to international standards, grow your career in a rapidly developing sector, and make a measurable impact on Liberia’s infrastructure — we want to hear from you.

WHAT WE OFFER

Why work at SELA

Work to World Standards

ASTM, AASHTO, BS EN and ISO methods, proficiency testing, and FIDIC-ready records. You will learn and apply internationally recognised testing procedures from day one.

Earn the Accreditation

Be part of the team that takes SELA through ISO/IEC 17025 assessment. This is career-defining experience that few laboratories in the region can offer.

Train on Modern Equipment

Supplier training on the equipment we install, a digital Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) from day one, and ongoing professional development.

Grow into Leadership

Mobile labs, satellite facilities in Buchanan and Ganta, and cross-border operations open new leadership roles as SELA scales across the region.

Teach the Next Generation

Mentor 10+ interns every year from UL, Stella Maris and Cuttington, and lead free community workshops — building Liberia’s technical capacity together.

Share in What We Build

An employee share pool is set aside so the team that builds SELA shares in its success. Terms subject to Board approval.

ROLES WE ARE BUILDING

The team structure

SELA will grow to 15+ full-time staff by Year 2, with the founding leadership team joining first. As we scale through Phase 2 and Phase 3, new leadership roles will open in environmental testing, mobile lab operations, satellite facilities, and cross-border services.

Founding Leadership

Technical Manager

You’ll own: Test methods, equipment and calibration, and technical sign-off on every report.

You bring: Senior civil or materials engineering, with hands-on laboratory work on major projects.

Quality Manager

You’ll own: The ISO/IEC 17025 quality system, internal audits and the accreditation process itself.

You bring: QA/QC experience, ideally ISO 17025 or ISO 9001, and an independent mind.

Business Development Lead

You’ll own: Prequalification with MPW and donor project units, tenders and client service.

You bring: Strong ties to Liberia’s contractors, consultants and project units.

Core Team (Phase 1)

Lab leads for each Phase 1 discipline, lab technicians for sample preparation and calibration records, field crew for boreholes, SPT and site sampling, reception and LIMS staff for chain of custody and digital records, and finance and admin support.

INTERNSHIPS

Student internship programme

SELA is committed to building Liberia’s next generation of laboratory professionals. Every year, we will host 10+ student interns from the University of Liberia, Stella Maris Polytechnic, Cuttington University, and other institutions.

Interns gain hands-on experience across all four laboratories — working alongside qualified engineers and technicians on real projects, learning internationally recognised test methods, and developing the skills that Liberia’s growing infrastructure sector demands.

SELA will also lead free community workshops and training sessions to support broader technical capacity building in Liberia’s engineering sector.

WHAT WE ASK

Our commitments to each other

Integrity without exception — Results are never for sale. Impartiality is what our clients pay for.

Rigour, every time — Follow the method, record everything, and make every result traceable.

Ownership — Build the systems, don’t just use them — from the SOPs to the client portal.

Teach as you go — Every experienced person trains the next: technicians, interns and partners.

Commit to the long build — Accreditation takes 12–18 months of disciplined work. We will do it together.
